On the Morning of April 17, ZGC Medical Device Park held the commencement ceremony of its Phase II Project in the ZGC Biomedical Base, Daxing District, Beijing.

ZGC Medical Device Park, with a total planned area of 192,000 square meters, is positioned as a service and industrialization base for high-end medical device innovations. It takes advantage of the research resources of international and domestic universities, research institutes and leading enterprises to support innovation. The Park provides site, supporting facilities and industrial services for projects, which are mainly in cardiovascular, diagnostic reagents, new orthopedic materials, high-end imaging, minimally invasive instruments and other fields, especially projects of precision medicine and AI-powered cutting-edge technology.

The first phase of the Park was started in August 2014, with a total investment of 1 billion yuan. Up to date, it has constructed 186,000 square meters of standardized production plants, R&D center for SMEs, incubators, talent apartments and other industrial carriers.

The Phase I Project went into operation in June 2017. A total of 70 enterprises have settled in it so far, all of which have an estimated annual output of over 5 billion yuan. The Park has attracted a large number of international top-notch talents, including four academicians, and established two academician workstations and one Beijing key laboratory. 

The second phase is planned to cover an area of 104,400 square meters, with the total construction area as 197,700 square meters. There will be four types of standard plants, i.e. large, medium, lower-medium and small-sized plants, in order to meet different demands to the extent possible.

After completion, it is going to serve as a high-end medical industrial park that focuses on high-end sectors and cutting-edge technologies in the medical field. As a significant part of the broader industrial space layout, it is designed to provide a good pilot testing and manufacturing platform for transfer of innovative life science technologies and achievement transformation in northern China.

It is predicted to invest 1.19 billion yuan and be put into operation in three years. The Phase I and II projects are expected to achieve annual output of 10 billion yuan and create more than 5,000 jobs, playing a positive role in boosting regional economic and social development.    

Since its opening in June 2017, ZGC Medical Device Park has built six service platforms, including a sci-tech financing platform and a technology platform，realizing four industrial functions, i.e. high-end medical device R&D, manufacturing, incubation and supportive services.

A global leading technology platform co-invested by the Park and ZGC Development Group has already started its pilot operation, supplying enterprises with a full range of engineering design services and product launching solutions, as well as product registration, inspection and testing and other specialized services.

The Park has built a platform of innovation research and pre-clinical safety evaluation for medical devices, in cooperation with Beijing Tonghe Litai Biotechnology co., Ltd. It provides a variety of services, including biocompatibility evaluation, animal experiment, education and training, for the medical device industry. It has undertaken more than 300 experiments, trainings for 120 medical device enterprises, totally saving 4 million yuan for them.
